Christina Tourin is the founder of the International Harp Therapy Program (IHTP).

After completing two Conservatorium and a Music Therapy Degree, Christina channeled her wealth of knowledge and many years work experience into this program. For the last thirty years she has travelled extensively teaching, training and inspiring people with her program. Through the decades her moto has been, ‘A therapeutic harpist in every hospital and hospice by 2020”. Now that Christina has long reached retirement her work will continue by qualified teams on four different continents, ie. United States (two locations), Hong Kong, Australia and The Netherlands.

International Harp Therapy Program Europe

10th anniversary of IHTP Europe

In 2015, we started the IHTP lessons in the Netherlands. Christina Tourin had been in the Netherlands before, but since 2015, a qualified team has been systematically developing the program for European students. In those 10 years, 65 students have participated in the program. Additionally, many students have participated in the introductory days and weekends. For some, this program is a path of self-development. For others, a path to a new profession. Until 2024, 19 have graduated. In 2025, another 5-7 students will graduate. A great result! In those 10 years, we as an organization have continued to develop and we notice that the quality of the students is growing along with it! We are very grateful for that! The people who have graduated now work as therapeutic harpists in healthcare. We sincerely hope that in the coming years we will be able to train many more for this beautiful and rewarding work!

For our Masterclasses we invited this year two beautiful collaegues to inspire us with their work.

HARMONY: A GREAT TOOL TO SERVE YOUR HEART AND HANDS
 
During this day Robijn Tilanus will guide us into the wonderful world of harmony. She has developed a special method on learning harmony: ‘The Fifth Factor’. By this method harmony is the servant of your heart (feelings) and your hands (improvisations). 
 
Robijn lets you experience that every note of a key has its own character, just like every chord and every altered scale. When you know and truly feel these characters, you can play with them. This makes your improvisations more musical and richer in emotion: harmony (the ‘head’) in service of the heart and the hands.
 
As an extra to this day, Robijn offers you for free her book The Fifth Factor: A practical approach to harmony (in English), as well as a month free access to the accompanying video series KWINTessens (in Dutch). More information: robijntilanus.nl
